2018 is about to be a thing of the past and like many of you guys, I am looking forward to seeing what 2019 will bring to the table. Throughout 2018, I’ve played a decent amount of games and just like last year’s blog, only a handful of these games have made a massive impact on your boy, so lets get into them.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Let’s start things out with Red Dead Redemption 2. Such a phenomenal game. From the characters like Arthur and Dutch to the whole world of RDR2, everything just amazed me. Yes, I did complain about the controls in the game and I still stand by them but to be quite honest with you, they don’t take much away from the experience of traversing the old wild west as Arthur Morgan. The voice acting in this game were some of the best I’ve heard in a while. I was so invested to the story that I even went out of my way to do more side-quests than I’d usually do, just to learn more about Arthur and the crew. That ending still gets to me man. The online however was kinda bland but I’m hoping they’ll add more stuff to actually do while you’re roaming around.
Spider-Man PS4
Next up on the list is Spider-Man PS4. When I first saw that teaser trailer gameplay for the game, I was blown away. The game looked unreal. Thankfully, the hype was met and even exceeded it. Insomniac got the controls down right. Swinging across and through the city has been a blissful experience, I haven’t enjoyed a Spider-Man game like this in quite sometime. The story was great too, and one of the attributes that I really liked about the game is how they let you live out the life of Peter Parker. Man, they even made Miles stand out on his own. There’s tons of things to do outside of the main mission and the game is littered with easter eggs for hardcore spider-man fans to appreciate. The visuals are fantastic and the details of the suit is just unreal.
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Hands down the best fighting game based on anime so far. Dragon Ball FighterZ showed the world what happens when you stay faithful to a anime and give it the care it deserves. Dragon Ball FighterZ became the game that literally bridged two world into one. It offered an easy entry level gameplay mechanic to newcomers wanting to learn how to play fighting games or casual dragon ball fans just wanted to unleash cool attacks while integrating an advanced system for serious advance player looking to take their game to the next level. The only gripe I had with this game was the lack of defensive options. Once someone catches you with a combo, it’s GG! However, its as small gripe compared to the overall presentation of this game.
God of War PS4
When I picked up this game, I was expecting to see Kratos once again tackle massive, brutish monsters from the Norse mythology. However, what I got instead was this amazing tale of a man learning to let go of his anger and his past and trying to become a better father to his son. The story of Kratos and Atreus was an amazing one that hit my feels way harder than it should have to be honest. The visuals are fantastic, the gameplay was amazing and the voice acting was great. The world was expansive and there was a lot to explore in that world. As someone who also like mythology stuff, I got a kick out learning new things about Norse gods that I didn’t know before.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Last one the list here is Super Smash Bros Ultimate. I gotta mention this game as I’ve yet to actually stop playing it. The game is one best Smash bros games out there. It’s really impossible to claim the other version being better. Ultimate just feels complete. The gameplay feel tighter than ever before, the visuals are great and there’s just so much replay-ability that’s it’s insane…if you’re competitive player. For a casual I still think it would still be great but after World of Light (which was tedious and disappointing) there’s not much else to do. For me as a competitive player, I’m happy.
And that’s it for me! 2018 was an amazing year for gaming. Yeah, we had the bullshits here and there but that’s just the business stuff. Here’s to more great games in 2019
