So after months of anticipation, we finally got Marvel’s TV Cloak & Dagger. I’ve watched the first two episode that’s currently out right now so I decided to share my thoughts and impression of the TV show.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, is an American cable television series created for Freeform by Joe Pokaski, based on the Marvel Comics characters of the same name. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films and other television series of the franchise. The series is produced by ABC Signature Studios, Marvel Television, and Wandering Rocks Productions, with Pokaski serving as showrunner.

The series stars Aubrey Joseph and Olivia Holt as Tyrone Johnson / Cloak and Tandy Bowen / Dagger, two teenagers who acquire superpowers and form a romantic relationship. Thw first two episode really did an amazing job in introducing the two main characters, illustrating their differences in both personalities and life styles

Tandy, despite once growing up in wealth, ended up follows in her mother’s footsteps after the passing of her father, stealing drugs and money from rich guys she picks up from clubs. On the other side, after Tyrone lost his brother due to a police shooting, his family began reshaping their lives, opting to ensure that Tyrone becomes “perfect” so that she wouldn’t lose her son. This led to him becoming a choir boy, trying to be the perfect model of a young black man while suppressing a simmering anger that he knows could too easily get him killed.

The acting on both  Aubrey Joseph and Olivia Holt is really phenomenal, really bringing their respective characters to life. You can’t help but to root for them as they discover their new found powers. On top of that, it’s willingness to get dark with topics such as racism, drug abuse, corporate malfeasance, sexual assault and suicidal depression. Of course drug abuse right now is the main topic of focus.

The only gripe that I have right now is the pacing so far. It’s really slow and I’m just waiting for them to finally try and explore their new powers and what their move will be going forward.
