Mieruko-chan is probably the funniest and creepiest anime I have seen thus far! The concept behind it is so intriguing!
Miko is a typical high school student whose life turns upside down when she suddenly starts to see gruesome and hideous monsters. Despite being completely terrified, Miko carries on with her daily life, pretending not to notice the horrors that surround her. She must endure the fear in order to keep herself and her friend Hana out of danger, even if that means coming face to face with the absolute worst. Blending both comedy and horror, Mieruko-chan tells the story of a girl who tries to deal with the paranormal by acting indifferent toward it.
The anime really does a great job of just creeping you out with the ghost’s design. Not just the look but my goodness the sound of their voice, the crackling sound of their movement, and the unease you get from watching Miko trying her best to pretend she can’t see them. That part alone makes you wonder what would have if she ever acknowledges their existence, even by accident. I’m really keen on learning more for sure. The other side is how weirdly comical it can get for Miko and how she monologues her experiences. Yeah, there’s clear fanservice but it doesn’t get too intrusive so that cool. Overall, I’m interested in seeing where this anime goes from there.
