I have been following Niobe for about two years now, and the only reason why I’m writing about them now, is because I thought I had already written about them! Better late than never I guess!

The story is as follows, Niobe Ayutami, an orphaned wild elf teenager and would-be savior of the vast and volatile fantasy world of Asunda. She is running from a past where the Devil himself would see her damned… toward an epic future that patiently waits for her to bind nations against the hordes of Hell!

Now there is a graphic novel before this called “The Untamed”, which acts as a prequel that explains a lot of what takes place. After that, it goes straight into Niobe, so if you’d like to understand what takes place, you’d want to start with The Untamed! The reason why I decided to highlight Niobe instead because it’s the meat of the universe and it’s pretty good.

The artwork is alright in the first part Niobe: She Is Life, which takes some getting to used to but by the time you get to the second part, Niobe: She Is Death, the artwork drastically improves, it’s almost night and day! The story is very compelling, hard to follow if you haven’t read the prequel but it’s still good enough to understand how the world on Niobe works, hosting a variety of themes commonly found in high fantasy worlds but with a unique twist to it! It’s good enough that HBO is looking to turn it into a series so that should tell you something. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something new!
