Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War! – A Political Narrative That Some Gamers Seem To Welcome, But Why?

So, I got a chance to watch the new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War! trailer, that was more of a historical piece about the spread of communism than gameplay reveals or cinematic gameplay film. The trailer itself was fine, very interesting, but I’ve noticed that there’s a debate about politics in gaming surfacing again, however this time, gamers seem to be excited for this version of politics, for more than one reason!

So to break it down, the trailer featured a real speech by a real KGB defector, Yuri Bezmenov, and his warning to America! It was a very interesting and educational trailer, and I’m glad that Call of Duty will be touching on more realistic historical events. Now then, let’s talk about the reception for the trailer. It’s no doubt that you’ve either seen (certain progressive) people on Twitter hate the trailer or certain (red-pilled) YouTubers excited that this game will piss of modern communist, but I found it both hilarious and hypocritical from both side perspective. I’ll break down the trailer to show you that had the subject been replaced, the reception would be quite different.

Demoralization – The trailer talks about the way in which enemies will slowly seep demoralization into the minds of a country’s citizens. Whether it’s to hate themselves, hate their culture, or even hate their country and those leading to the destabilization and ultimately it’s collapse for within! Yes, I’m broadening his message but you get the picture. Basically, civil unrest!

Now, I’ve seen a lot of people immediately correlate his message with the whole (anti-white men, anti-America, anti-western civilization) that’s been happening, all of which is true! And they’re not wrong to worry, Russia has had a history of doing these types of tactics to the US and the rest of the world for that matter!

However, America is no different! The same can be said about how they demoralized the African population, (anti-black, anti-Africa, anti-black culture) and demoralized their minds. I wonder, had the subject of Yuri Bezmenov been swapped and focused on America’s past communist-like behavior, would these gamers still have open arms for this game? Yes, I’m aware that most gamers hate “modern politics”, but you’d be hard-pressed to convince me that they’d wouldn’t have had a problem with this take.

Know your history! – This was my favorite part of the trailer, as it talks about people knowing and understanding their history, or be doomed to repeat it! It is essential that we remember what our ancestors did to its full context so that we can learn from their mistakes and move forward. However often times people don’t like to remember certain parts of history and are selective as to what “they want to remember“! And if you remind them, it’s “move on, it’s in the past!” I’m sure you’ve heard it thrown at you at some point, regardless of where you’re from! Yuri made it crystal clear, KNOW YOUR HISTORY!

Look, my point is that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War! exposes the hypocrisy of some gamers who, for lack of a better word, bitch and moan about when certain politics and history (whether modern or not) are discussed but are quick to champion they ones that matter to them.

Politics are subjective and history is objective and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War proved that everyone has their own agenda that they’re willing to fight for it, but are not willing to try and understand the other’s point of view! I saw someone claim that this game would and I quote: “Red pill the fuck out them!” I thought red-pill meant that your eyes are open and your willingness to embrace all forms of knowledge (the good and bad), and not this “join my group, we have big IQ”!

Anyways, the game looks dope and I can’t wait to see what it will look and play!
