Iyanu – Child of Wonder: An Upcoming Graphic Novel About A Teenage Girl With Abilities That Rival The Ancient Deities!

We back at it again with another showcase for a indie graphic novel called Inyanu – Child of Wonder, a graphic novel inspired by Avatar: The Legend of Aang, Brave and The Incredibles.

It has been over a thousand years since the age of wonders — a time where the divine ones blessed humanity with spiritual, structural and technological marvels. But in the blink of an eye, it all vanished, and all that was left were remnants of an ancient, advanced civilization. As humankind forges ahead, culture becomes knowledge, knowledge becomes history and history becomes mythology.

Until Iyanu. A teenage orphan girl with no recollection of her past who suddenly discovers that she has hidden powers that rival the divine ones themselves. As Iyanu tries to come to terms with her new abilities, the people of Yorubaland become aware of an ancient evil that has reawakened. And all that is left between them and destruction are the memories locked away in the mind of Iyanu.

I really like the premise of this Iyanu’s story, and especially the fact that it’s already done, but just needs the support of anyone that’s interesting for printing and other things. However, the main reason I’m really excited is that it opens up the doors to anyone interested in learning more about a section of the African world, its vast history and mythology in a way that can be appreciated by any age. The more books like these we get, the better it helps clear the artificial mist that has shrouded Africa for so long.

Of course, regardless what’s most important here is the story. Without it, it won’t last. Luckily, I am interested in this concept of Iyanu – Child  of Wonder and I think it will find it’s footing when it gets the support it needs. If you’d like to support them, head over to their Kickstarter to learn more about this project.
