E3 Is Becoming Obsolete! Playstation Rumored To Skip E3 2020 A Second Time!

Word on the gaming streets says that Playstation is once again planning to skip E3 2020. Damm, if this ends up being true, then 2020 will be the year that E3 will become obsolete.

According to PushSquare:

This rumour comes from VGC, citing unnamed sources. The publication — which has provided plenty of reliable information in the past — writes: “We understand that Xbox’s events team is working under the assumption that PlayStation will not be at E3 2020 and upping its plans accordingly.” Hmmm.

I already talked about my take on E3 becoming obsolete in Is E3 Conferences Becoming Obsolete Thanks To Leakers? and I shared my opinions on Playstation skipping last year’s E3 in Sony Skipping E3 Next Year?!? PlayStation Skipping E3 For First Time In Show’s 24-Year History!!

This is a major blow to the conference if this is true. I mean, why else would people tune in? Yeah, there will be games revealed but you could skip all the noise and just wait for the trailers to be dropped in YouTube.

Back in the day, E3 used to be for investors and media only and that exclusiveness made it enticing to have your product in the eyes of the people. Back then, YouTube was not a thing. Now that everyone and their mama has a channel, if you have enough notoriety, then you really don’t need a booth. You can save that money and invest it in other areas that need it the most.

I personally think Sony is making the right choice here, but not everyone agrees with that idea. According to VideoGameChronicle who had Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter give his take, they say it’s a bad idea and a mistake:

“As far as I know, they don’t plan to attend,” he said.

“I think that’s a huge mistake, as their ‘focus on the consumer’ is not inconsistent with their attendance at the premier industry trade show. I hope they change their minds, but I am sceptical.”

Well, what do you guys think? I think Sony basically had no choice. They are adapting to the changes of technological aspect of presenting and if Nintendo can do it, and successfully, then Sony can too.
