I’ve been watching and following Amazon’s MMO New World, which is coming out in May 2020, with a beta in April and I have to say it’s improving in such a way that it might end up been the MMO that myself and many other have been waiting for.
For those of you that don’t know or haven’t heard about this upcoming western MMO, NEW WORLD is an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game by Amazon Game Studios. It’s an open World MMO set on the fictional and supernatural island of Aeternum in the 17th century. I got a chance to play the game during the time it was described as an open world survival game, and let me tell you I was not impressed at all.
In fact, I was dead bored within an hour of playing that version of the game. At that point, I had disregarded New World then and then, and just moved on. However, months later and come to find out I wasn’t the only one who shared the same sentiment with New World and the team behind the game took note of that and began revamping the whole premise of the game. They toned down the survival aspect of the game and amped the MMO portion and the feedback as been great. PvP is still the main focus, however they’re not forcing you into it anymore. I’m fine with that. I’m a PvP guy but I don’t want people forced into something that’s not their niche.
Anyways, I’m liking the changes that they’ve made but that’s not all that got me paying an even closer eye to New World. The game has this class-less system that lets you play however way you want. Essentially, it’s based on the weapon that you use, so the more you use a certain weapon, the more you’ll begin to master and be efficient with it.
Not to mention that the combat is supposed to be inspired by Dark Soul. I don’t think I’ve played an MMO who’s combat is inspired by Dark Soul so I’m already intrigued by this concept. There’s also the fact that the game is only on PC, as Amazon Studio wants to push the graphic of the game to the max. I may not care as much about graphics these days but I still felt happy hearing that.
Lastly, as we get closer to New World’s release, we are getting more information regarding the world’s lore, which, I am very curious about what the story of this MMO will tell, especially now that Amazon Studios have decided to add a traditional quest system, given players a scene of progression or an objective. The only concern that I have with this game, is the player driven economy. I mean, it could work but if the number start to diminish too soon the well, you already know.
I’ve been hungry for a new MMO for quite some time so I’ll be given New World another chance, lets hope it doesn’t disappoint.
