Now this is something big. Apparently, Crunchyroll and WEBTOON are going to be working together to bring us original animations from the WEBTOON catalog and I can already think of two comics I want to see animated.

According to Crunchyroll’s blog post:

We are extremely excited to be partnering with WEBTOON … WEBTOON has a tremendous catalogue of content and creators that resonate deeply with our audience and we can’t think of a better way to delight fans than by bringing these stories to life through animation.”

WEBTOON SVP of IP Development Taylor Grant commented on the announcement:

“There is tremendous crossover appeal with our audiences … and exceptional creative synergy on the types of stories we want to tell. We’re excited to partner with Crunchyroll to bring our globally appealing characters to audiences and consumers in new ways, as well as create new opportunities for our talented creators.”

Right off the bat, I’m think of Unordinary and God of High School, two very popular and great comics that come to mind. Both these series would be fantastic anime adaptation that I’m sure many would agree to see. This is honestly great news and exposes the webtoon comics to a lot more people. Lets hope the first few roster are the one we want and more importantly, are done justice!
