Alright, I’ll be honest. I’ve being extremely hesitate in reviewing Fate/Grand Order Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia. With how incredibly complex the Fate universe can be, I felt that I was too out of touch to be jumping into a Fate series having only seen Fate/Zero & Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works (working in seeing the last route). Yes, I’m aware of the novels and games but man, I ain’t got time for all that. However, despite Fate/Grand Order covering only a portion of the mobile game’s story, and hearing that the universe encompasses all the traits and characters from all the other universes, I thought NOW might be the right time to give it a shot.
Just to note, I have seen the prologue animated special movie that came out in 2017 which explained the premises of the Fate/Grand Order universe, which I’d suggest watching to not feel super out of the loop.
Did I still feel out of the loop despite seeing that special two years ago? Yep, I may have had vague memories of it but even with that, I felt left out. The characters moved trough the scenes like they’ve aleady been 20 plus episodes into the story prior to this one and showed no mercy for any newcomers, which I found a bit disappointing. One of the many reason on why I wanted to watch Fate/Grand Order was because I really enjoyed Type-Moon’s animation style and visual effects, not to mention that the character designs are always dope as hell. Of course, lets not forget the fight scenes, which can be top notch stuff.
I know that they’ve specifically chosen the Babylon story as it has been praised and voted for by the fans as one of the best one out of the other stories (London, Rome, etc), I’d still like just get a small recap, even in the form of a YouTube clip to help digest all this new information. Anyways, I’m going to keep watching and treat is like I did Final Fantasy 14, by which I mean I’ll treat this 2-cour series (21 episodes) in the same way like I did with A Realm Reborn. Watch it, get intrigued and then go on YouTube to have a kind soul give me the recap from the mobile games and what happen prior to Babylonia. Heck, with Gilgamesh been in this anime, I have to watch. He ended up being one of my favorite with the way he would disrespect everyone.
Overall, lets see how it goes. I already like the characters of Ishtar, Ritsuka Fujimaru, Gilgamesh and Mash Kyrielight so it should be easy sailing from here right?
