Zenitsu trudges forlornly through the woods in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Episode 17 only to encounter a spider with a human face. After all that crying and yelling, we finally learn who thought him to be a fighter and the struggles he’s had since childhood.

I know that for most people Zenistu comes off as annoying and a whine-baby, but what I liked about this episode is how even Zenitsu recognizes his flaws and is earnestly trying to improve as a character. Even though he was taught by a powerful master, he was only able to learn one move, and has mastered that move to it’s absolute fullest potential. Which is honestly kind off disappointing, as I’d hope there would be more moves under his belt. Based on his abilities, he’s potentially the most powerful among the three. You could say this is a play on their elemental abilities, with Tanjiro’s water meaning adaptability while Zenistu is straight and furious.

They even explained how his hair colour changed from brown to yellow, all because he accidental called down lightning. I’m really hoping that one of these days he’ll learn how harness his powers and shows it off to his peers. That’s really all I want from him at this point. However, I am a bit confused on whether he’s actually unconscious or not, as he kept having inner dialogue about his past. Anyways, one of the Twelve Kizuki, a direct subordinate of Muzan Kibutsuji finally shows up after Tanjiro slays the Mother Spider Demon of Mt. Natagumo, and despite him making contact with his second form, it’s clear that his guy is no joke and will the combined power of the Hashiras to beat him. Overall, it was good episode with great character development for Zenitsu.
