In the past, I’ve heard of a mod in Dota called Autochess, in which players play a game with similar concept to chess, along with characters from Dota 2. Sporting up to eight players, the game assigns them to eight different chessboards and goal is to be the last man standing. Valve became aware of this concept and although they couldn’t come to an agreement with the creators of this mod, they then took it upon themselves to create a brand new game based on the same concept.

Dota Underlords took the Auto-chess concept and built on top of it. Although I have never played the original mod (mostly do to sheer laziness on my part), I didn’t feel like I had to to understand Underlords. The game is very straight forward to understand and in most cases more polished than the mod, as one would come to expect. The game is currently in beta but it’s making quite a lot of progress. Dota Underlords is really quite addictive. I mean REALLY ADDICTIVE! No two game ever plays the same and with how each hero all have unique abilities, such as deciding which hero traits you want to build your crew around to gain an edge against your opponents, there’s so much room to experiment and learn new tricks. The game is all about strategizing while dealing with a very fair RNG.

I think that’s where the fun lies with Dota Underlords. You have to be able to make the most out of what you’ve been dealt with, along with knowing each of your heroes abilities, what the items do, and understanding unit positioning. That is the key to victory. And trust me, when you win a game, it’s so satisfying.

I’ve really being enjoying my time with the game, and the great thing about Dota Underloards is that DOTA Underlords is the first mobile game to be published using the Source 2 game engine. So that means that play on both Steam PC and on your mobile and battle players across the globe in a hassle-free crossplay experience.

This is the first time, I’m actually considering taking a game really seriously for tournaments, mostly because I can play in on my mobile on the side. It has a lot of great potential in my opinion.
