You know, I’ve heard about #GamerGate pop up from time to time over the past few years and honestly, I feel like the term is now being misused. And it’s been misused to a degree to silence anyone that offers an opinion that doesn’t align with the “norm”!

Look, I’m not going to give you a rundown on what GamerGate is all about, just look it up! Not trying to be an ass here but that topic has been covered plenty enough. I’m just here to give you my thoughts on how Gamergate, a concept that seems to imply that gamers, predominantly male gamers apparently, are actively trying to stop “normies”  from entering into the gaming sphere, aka gate-keeping.

I mean, I’m pretty sure that most gamers aren’t out here wishing and praying that people would stop playing and talking about video games. It seems kinda counter-productive if you ask me. However, what I have noticed is how this GamerGate movement, has morphed into a full blown attack on anyone who criticize, or disagree with any figurehead in the gaming world. It’s as if, you can’t disagree or critic someone respectfully over their viewpoint, action, behaviour or opinion without there been an issue.

Correct me if I’m wrong here, but when you post something, whether it be a blog, a video or both, is it wrong for me to assume that it’s not completely immune to criticism? It seems, from what I have a gathered is that, people are using or screaming “Gamergate” when they get called out from something that has been proven false & incorrect, contradicts their prior statement, is a lie of sort or borderline defamation. Let me just put on the record now that I am not condoning harassment, death threats or anything that calls from violence. People who do that are lower than scum. I’m referring to offering and critiquing other’s work in a fair and honest manner.

This Gamergate call out seem to be used by people who are incapable of taking criticism for the work that they put out.  I make video and blogs daily, and I’m here hoping to God that some of y’all would offer fair and respectful criticism for my work so I can improve. Or correct my work if I’m factually wrong in something I’ve said or written.

Just something I wanted to highlight! I’ve actually seen it been twisted up into it been a white male gamer vs literally everyone else (women and minority) and that shit is fucked up. Not very inclusive behavior if you ask me.

I kinda get it though, calling out bad behaviour in a community is important in keeping it healthy, but going beyond that to try and push a false narrative is messed up. Anyways, let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
