For years now gaming has been striving to reach a level of realism that closely resembles that of our real world. So far, we’ve have come pretty close to reaching that seemingly dream-like target, however, in recent years, graphics in games seem to have plateaued in terms of visuals prowess. I think now with the advancement of A.I. tech, games are about to leap into the next phase of gaming capabilities while also providing healthy dose of benefits to the industry as a whole.

The last time I talked about A.I., I was focused on the gameplay potential it could yield. In “Advanced AI Technology In An Open World Game Could Be A Game Changer“, I talked about my believe that A.I. could be used to build a gaming world by which quests and mission are all crafted by the A.I. learning your decisions and adapting to the game itself. I know, it sounds crazy but honeslty, seeing how far A.I. has come in terms of improvements, it doesn’t seem that far-fetched anymore.

Aside from that realm of possibility, A.I. could play a major factor in creating games faster, cheaper while making them look more realistic than ever before. This is all thanks to Nvidia’s Ray Tracing ability, which previously was inaccessible to the gaming industry.

Nvidia’s Ray Tracing Technology in a nutshell, fuses ray tracing, deep learning and rasterization to fundamentally transform the creative process for content creators and developers through the NVIDIA Turing GPU architecture and support for industry leading tools and APIs.

Applications built on the RTX platform bring the power of real-time photorealistic rendering and AI-enhanced graphics, video and image processing, to enable millions of designers and artists to create amazing content in a completely new way.

Now on its own, it wouldn’t accomplish much, however when you put it together with NGX ,a new deep learning powered technology stack bringing AI-based features that accelerate and enhance graphics, photos imaging and video processing directly into applications then what once seemed impossible, becomes a reality.

Not only will the game look  better than they’ve ever did before, it would in theory, substantially reduce the cost to takes to make today’s triple A games. To put it simply here’s an example, an asset for a game can take roughly from 20 hours to about 40 hours to create from start to finish. Now, if you needed another asset, you’d have to start from scratch, which would only cost you more time, but more importantly, money as well. However, if you trained an A.I. to learn how to build multiple assets faster, this will save any developer on both time and money.

This technology has already been implemented in engines such as Unreal, Unity etc. It’s only a matter of time before we see it in our games. So what do you guys think of this? How close do you think we are to seeing this level of gaming in the future.
