You know, one of the many things that fans of the MCU have been pondering and discussing in anticipation of the Avengers: Endgame is if Captain Marvel should be the one to take Thanos down. The CAPTAIN MARVEL movie actually explains why she’s more than capable of possible taking him down if the right circumstances are met. So why is everyone bothered by the idea of her beating Thanos and saving the universe?
We are about to enter into spoiler territory here so this is your last chance to leave now. You have been warned. So the biggest take away from the recent MCU movie, Captain Marvel, is that it explains how and why Carol Daverns is in fact one of the strongest Avengers in the MCU thanks to a re-writing of her origins story. Now, her powers comes from one of the Infinity stones, specifically the Space stone. Unlike Thanos who has to wield the Infinity Gauntlet to wield the powers of the Infinity stones, Carol has somehow absorbed a portion of the Space stone and has been infused by it. This by default, make her one of the strongest in the MCU, possibly even surpassing MCU Thor and Hulk.
The problem that some in the community, including myself if I’m been honest, have with this, is whether or not it makes sense narrative-wise for Captain Marvel to just swoop in and beat the ever living dogshit out of Thanos. Unlike Captain Marvel, many of the Avengers have a personally vendetta against Thanos and seeing one of the beat him would be a more fulfilling experience than having Captain Marvel beat Thanos.
Thor for example, had to watch as Thanos mercilessly killed his brother and wiped out his people. He has a reason to go after him, aside from saving the universe that is. Nebuala would be finally getting back at the tyrant who stole her away from her family, slaughtered her people and killed her sister, Glamora. To see either one of them make the final blow would be gratifying. That’s just one of the few examples. Captain America and Iron Man are another examples, legacy characters who we have followed for years now. Iron Man in particular would be more interesting to see considering the MCU started with him. And the personal interaction that Thanos had with him just adds to the weight.
Also, I’d like to mention that Captain Marvel only has about half of the Space Stone powers, while Thanos will have all six, so to say that Captain Marvel would win easily, is a bit of an overstatement, and kind of silly. This will definitely be a team effort. I’m focusing mostly on the one finally blow aspect. As in when the Avengers have removed the gauntlet from him and have left him weakened. I dunno, I just can’t see myself accepting that outcome if it ends up been true. However, that’s just one guy’s opinion, let me know your thoughts on the matter. I’d like to see what people think of this as we await Endgame.
