For the first time in a while, I was completely out of the loop when it came to the new Generation 8 Pokemon games. Usually, I’d be on top of the leaks and whatnot but it was nice to just completely surprised about the reveal of Pokemon Sword and Shield. And on Pokemon Day too! That being said, lets talk about them.

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be set in Galar, an expansive region with many environments—idyllic countryside, contemporary cities, thick forests, and craggy, snow-covered mountains. Anyone with a keen eye, would’ve picked up on the fact that we’re basically going to be traversing in the UK. That’s pretty cool. We were also introduced to the three new starter Pokemon: Grookey: a mischievous Chimp Pokémon that is full of boundless curiosity, Scorbunny: a Rabbit Pokémon that is always running about, bursting with energy and Sobble: a somewhat timid Water Lizard Pokémon that shoots out attacks as it hides itself in the water. You already know what we rep out here. Fire types for life. So I’ll definitely be choosing Scorbunny as my starter.

Speaking about the starters, I guess I might as well address them. They all look basic as hell. I get that simplicity is key, but come on. All three of their designs look boring as hell. Really hoping their Level 36 counter-parts really bring some coolness to the table cause right now, I’m unimpressed. Aside from that, the game looks great. It was exactly what I expected it to like after seeing LetsGO. With slightly pushed up graphics, we are one step closer to reaching out ideal Pokemon game. I skipped out on LetsGo because I didn’t want that game to be my first 3D home console Pokemon game so I’m all the way ready for Pokemon Sword and Shield.

There’s nothing else to talk about. Random encounters are back, Gyms are back and everything is as it should be. Now all that’s left it to wait and see what new features they’ll bring to the table. Battle royale? Nah, I’m just playing.
