OK, now I’m really intrigued by this Detective Pikachu, especially if they’re busting out Mewtwo like that.
The second trailer gave us even more hints about the plot of the movie but I’ll be real with you guys, I was more focused on seeing how many Pokemon got that real life treatment. So here’s the synopsis, courtesy of the official website:
The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokemon partner, Detective Pikachu, a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement event to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery.
Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokemon live side-by-side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokemon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokemon universe.
To be honest, I kinda wished they didn’t reveal Mewtwo at all (maybe he showed up in the game, I never played it) because from the trailer, I get the vibe that Tim’s Dad and that Mewtwo have some type of connection that’s going to play a major role in this movie. We know that in the original Pokemon games, the concept of fusion between human and Pokemon is possible, so maybe that’s what happens to Tim’s dad. I don’t but what I do know is that, I’m interested in this movie for sure.
