Anime

So According To Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards, The Best Fight Scene In Anime Of 2018 Was From My Hero Academia? Yeah, No!

So Crunchyroll held their annual Anime awards and fans across the world got to “vote” for their favorite moments in anime. One of those nomination was for Best fight in Anime and to my surprise, it went to All Might vs All for One! As you can imagine, I heavily disagreed with that result.

Before I get right into it, here are winners from the awards:

  • Anime of the Year – Devilman Crybaby (Science SARU)
  • Best Film – My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (Bones)
  • Best Continuing Series – Dragon Ball Super (Toei Animation)
  • Best Director – Masaaki Yuasa for Devilman Crybaby
  • Best Animation – Violet Evergarden (Kyoto Animation)
  • Best Character Design – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind (character designer: Takahiro Kishida, original designs: Hirohiko Araki)
  • Best Fight Scene – All for One vs All Might from My Hero Academia Season 3
  • Best Opening Sequence – “Kiss of Death” from Darling in the Franxx (singer: Mika Nakashima, producer: Hyde, sequence director: Toshifumi Akai, storyboards: Atsushi Nishigori)

  • Best Ending Sequence – “Akatsuki no Requiem” from Attack on Titan Season 3 (singer: Linked Horizon, sequence director: Satoshi Kadowaki)
  • Best Protagonist – Rimuru Tempest from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
  • Best Antagonist – All for One from My Hero Academia Season 3
  • Best Boy – Izuku ‘Deku’ Midoriya from My Hero Academia Season 3
  • Best Girl – Mai Sakurajima from Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai
  • Best Voice Actor: Japanese – Mamoru Miyano as Kotaro Tatsumi in Zombie Land Saga
  • Best Voice Actor: English – Christopher R. Sabat as All Might in My Hero Academia Season 3

As you can tell, MHA once again cleaned house. Last time this happened, I kinda understood why, but now I’m a bit lost. Anyways aside from that, the one nomination that I frankly can’t quite get my head around is the Best Fight Scene. I mean, last time I checked, the definition of a fight is to take part in a violent struggle involving the exchange of physical blows or the use of weapons. All that happend was All Might landing two punches, max!

Don’t get me wrong, that fight with All Might and All for One was very emotional and epic as hell, but when you have Naruto and Sasuke vs Momoshiki on the same playing field or heck, Goku vs Jiren that basically was treating like a national boxing event, you have to ask, what in the hell happened?

And you’re telling me that fans were the ones who voted for this? Come on! I’m having a difficult time believing this. I wanna meet these “fans” who voted for this and I demand a recount too.

  1. Why even let it concern you? I’m looking at that list and seeing Rimuru listed as best protagonist (from the whole of 2018) and I am knowing exactly why I decided not to pay attention to these awards this year.
