Here’s and unexpected announcement that I’m sure no one so coming, a Ni No Kuni film adaptation has been announced by Level-5 and Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. Japan announced at a press conference that Level 5 will be producing an anime film of its Ni no Kuni video game franchise that will debut this summer. For those of you that aren’t aware or knowledgeable about Ni no Kuni: Ni no Kuni is a series of role-playing games developed by Level-5. The first games in the series chiefly follow the young Oliver, and his journey to another world to save his mother and stop the beckoning evil.
The sequel, Revenant Kingdom is set hundreds of years after the events of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. The game begins in the kingdom of Ding Dong Dell, which features the cat-like Grimalkin and mouse-like Mousekin races which have a history of animosity. The kingdom is ruled by the House of Tildrum, with its current heir, Evan, preparing himself to assume the throne after his father’s untimely death.
Anyways, they’ve revealed the plot for the movie and it goes as follows:
Yū is a high school student, and his best friend is Haru and his childhood friend is Kotona. Through a certain incident, they travel back and forth between reality and Ni no Kuni. When Kotona’s life is put in danger, the three must make “the ultimate choice.
Now for those who are on the outside looking in, this series may come across as an anime for kids, but don’t let the visuals fool you. Ni no Kuni deals with a lot of adult themed stuff on a regular basis and is why I’m excited for this movie. This movie could serve as an entry point for those who are new to the series and in turn may lead them to checking out the games. All I know is that this game is going to look amazing if anything else.
