Listen, competition is good for everyone but in the case of DC and Warner Bros. it just seems to always just slap them in the face when the try to be Marvel. There’s a clear difference between DC movies and Marvel movies and this new plan of DC seems to make it all too clear. Warner Animation Group are developing a ‘BATMAN BEYOND’ film for theatrical release. The film will reportedly be DC’s answer to ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’ which to me already sounds bad, but hear me out.
I have no problem with DC and Warner Animation Group developing a ‘BATMAN BEYOND’ film, in fact hearing this news got me REALLY excited. However, the mindset for the movie just ain’t there for me. Like, I’m not saying that Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is an unsurpassable movie, but you can tell that a lot of attention and care went into creating the movie. More importantly, they weren’t competing with anyone but themselves. Their goal was to create an amazing and unique experience for fans to enjoy and you know we enjoyed it.
For DC, that statement, “the film will reportedly be DC’s answer to ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’, just doesn’t sit well with me and comes off as, “shit, everyone’s likes Into the Spider-Verse, lets try and cashgrab the hype!” I get it, business is business but I feel like with their track record of trying to copy Marvel and coming up short because of it, makes me have little faith in this movie. And that’s wild for me to say, considering that DC makes some of the best animated movies when it comes to comics. Batman Beyond has a much darker tone than Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse so colors and shit won’t work so well. I mean we have a leaked image of the movie, which you can see above so I guess they’re going for a unique look too. I dunno, I just don’t want them to ruin Batman Beyond.
But hey, that’s just one guy’s speculation. I’m basing my opinion on a reportedly news that came out. That, and I’m a huge fan of the Batman Beyond so I’d much rather that they don’t mess it up because of greed. If they pull it of though, great!
