Here’s a topic I thought that I’d never discuss, Sony Entertainment/ Playstation have decided to skip, yes folks, SKIP E3 2019 and the reason behind it is pretty interesting, however what does this mean for E3?

According to Playstation by Variety:

“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” according to the statement. “PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

In September, Shawn Layden, chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, said the company wouldn’t be hosting this year’s PlayStation Experience citing a lack of games to show.

E3-2018-All-You-Need-to-Know-About-PlayStation-1

This is fucking huge man, one of the main reasons to watch E3 has decided to skip the scene in an effort to create something new for fans to consume their stuff. Some people believe that this might be their move for PSX, which it could be but I feel like there’s more it than that. Well, from a business point of view, they’re saving A LOT of money which can be used within Sony and Playstation. Of course, they aren’t the first to do this. Nintendo already made that move years ago and honestly, it works well for them. Of course, not having a presence at E3 2019 is a massive lose in publicity as most people, even the casual gamers tune in to E3 to see what’s new.

E3 has always been the center point of new game reveals but now that both Nintendo and Playstation have skipped the show, will E3 still survive? Personally, this is a huge blow, I wouldn’t be surprised if ticket sales plummet this year. I mean, why else would you go to E3 at this point? To see Xbox? Come on now, be real here! This is very interesting to follow from both a gamer and a business perspective, will Playstation continue this trend in 2020 or is this just a one-time deal? It all really depends on how much Sony saves while not going. They did say that they didn’t have any games to showcase so maybe we may see them in E3 2020.

Just for the fun of it, here’s my theory on why Playstation decided to skip E3 2019, they saw Microsoft’s line up and realized that they’re got nothing to compete so they folded. I mean Microsoft has been buying up all these developer companies so if they end up going to E3 and show NOTHING, that will go down as the greatest L in gaming history.
