Disney just announced that there will be another Toy Story movie, Toy Story 4, and this one will in fact be the final movie in the Toy Story franchise. Now, I was bit confused by this news as I thought that Toy Story 3 had such an amazing ending that even the toughest of dudes would shed a thug tear to it but apparently Disney thinks they can top that. Also, the internet is kinda mad that a spoon can now be considered a toy now, so I’ll be talking about that as well.
“Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called ‘Forky’ to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.”
Like I said before, I’m very interested to see how they’ll ever top the brilliance of the last movie and whether or not this is just a cashgrab. Now, what I found to be the most interesting thing about Toy Story 4 is the inclusion of a new character called Forky! People aren’t to fond or split in opinions of this new character as he doesn’t fit in well with the traditional narrative of Toy Story. I wouldn’t say I mad about it myself, more like I’m confused by this random addition. I’ve seen people try to justify Forky inclusion and how he came alive by saying that if a child loves an object with all their heart, they can bring anything to life in that world. Which could be the plot of this movie. Maybe this child, before meeting up with Woody and the gang, had no toys of their own and so resorted to using a fork as a plaything. After years of playing with this toy, it became alive.
For me that’s kinda bullshit, simply because, we’ve seen toys in boxes that have never met a child in their brief existence and they’re all alive and talking. From watching these movies, it was kinda established that toys were just alive and have been for who knows how long. So for a fork to just come alive suddenly because a child willed it, kinda makes sense since it’s Disney, but is still bullshit at the same time.
Toy Story 4 is set for a Summer 2019. It’s WAY too soon to judge the film but hopefully they don’t end up ruining the great ending we all thought was brilliant.
