It is not secret that I am a HUGE FAN of the Avatar: The Last Airbender animation. I personally still believe that it is the superior TV animation to the Korra series and if you’re planning to change my mind then forget it. You’d have a better chance seeing hell freeze over than having me admitting that blasphemes statement. Anyways, when the first live-action film came out, it committed the foulest of sins to which this day, no prayer can save it or the people who made that abomination. Now, Netflix seems want taint their souls by attempting to try the live-action series themselves.
According to Variety:
Netflix has ordered a live-action series based on “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
The new show hails from the original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who will serve as showrunners and executive producers. The new series, in partnership with Nickelodeon, will start production in 2019.
A lot of people are concerned, as one should be, as the last…sigh, film proved to be anything but Avatar. However, there’s some good potential to come from this. Netflix has had a great track record…actually I just remembered Death Note, so scratch that, a good track record for the most part when it comes to adaptations. With all eyes on them now, they’ll hopefully try to stay faithful to the series.
It’s a great opportunity too to get the live-action series that we deserved as fans. All they gotta do is cast the right people who know the material or are willing to dive into the lore and begin to learn it, find people who LOOK LIKE THE CHARACTERS, and well put their 100% into it. That’s all I ask….OK that and some cool as high quality FX. I wanna see those bendings pop.
I mean, they got the original creators as show runners so that’s already a good sign. And they even got Jeremy Zuckerman, the original composer on the original Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra on board. Listen, all I want is for the original cast to be RESPECTFULLY portrayed and not insulted like they did the last time. There’s not much information out right now so I guess we’ll have to wait until we hear more information in the future.
