So, few days ago Apple revealed the next lines of iPhones,  Xs & Xs Max to the world and as usual, it’s an upgrade to the already established iPhone brand. However, what stood out to me the most wasn’t the nice camera features, Super Retina or it’s sleek new designs…it’s the price.

iPhones have been infamous for the ridiculous price range that it comes in but this time, I started to wonder, how are people able to justify shelling out $1,000, yes ONE THOUSAND US DOLLARS on a mobile device. CNN wrote a pretty interesting article on this. Titled “How Apple got us to pay so much for the iPhone“, it talks about how Apple get away with selling  these phones at such a high price:

To justify the prices of X-braded phones, Apple did add a new interface, new sizes and new features. It’s unlikely most customers care enough about using a finger swipe instead of a home button, or face detection instead of fingerprints for security, to drop more money on a device. The truly killer features are the larger screens, which Apple has pushed all the way to the edges of the devices, and the new size options.

Customers are also paying for the brand. They want the Apple logo on the back of large rectangle with a smooth gold finish.

The new price range has trade-offs for the company in countries where it has been trying to expand. It could signal Apple is giving up on the low-cost Indian market to just sell on the higher end. It could fare better in China, where it is still struggling to take over popular Chinese brands like Vivo, Xiaomi and Huawei.

And that’s the key word here, “brand”. Some of these so called “new innovation”, can be found on android phones months prior to it’s reveal. People these days are paying for the brand (whether they’d like to admit it or not), to flex on people that they can avoid these nice things, or to do as we like to say “chase the clout”.

Hey look, I ain’t saying that people shouldn’t be able buy whatever they want with their hard earned cash but for me, yeah I’d rather not pay a grand for a phone. However, I will praise Apple on one thing. They’ve shown just how powerful branding can be, and the better your brand looks to the public, the more willingly people will be to shell out some cash towards it. I mean look at the Supreme brand, people are really out here dropping hundreds of dollars for basic ass logo. I ain’t judging tho…kinda!

Still the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max is a pretty impressive tech but is it REALLY worth the price? For reference, here are the stats for the new iPhones, I’ll let you be the judge:
