It’s been almost a year since my last review but we are finally back. Attack on Titan Season 3 Episode 1 (38) – Smoke Signal continues off where the last season left us and things are already getting real.
The episode starts off with Eren doing some housework with the rest of the squad. It was light-hearthed and kinda funny. However, we didn’t come here for that slice of life anime, we’re for that mystery and titans. Soon after, we see Hange convince Eren try to use his Titan powers, specifically to harness his harden ability to seals the walls. What’s interesting is that Eren can’t seem to use his Titan powers as effectively as he used to. Maybe learning that new ability from the previous episode must have taken a toll on his body.
After barely surviving Eren’s recovery, a rising threat from the shadows puts everyone’s lives in danger again. It turns out that someone is trying to silence the squad. We learn that the King, King Fritz is plotting something and is trying to get Eren and Historia but why that is isn’t clear yet. He held a donation in which he gave away 60% of the reserves to the public in order to gain their trust and raise their morales.
Anyways, we also found out that Pastor Nick has being murdered. We don’t who orchestrated the assassination but we do know that it’s someone who also seeking information on Historia and her connection to the Walls. Of course, near the end of the episode, we already got a first victim. RIP Nifa, and the other guy that got blasted in the face. This is were we get our introduction to Kenny the Ripper, the guy who took Levi under his wings for a short period of time. It was pretty cool to see a different type of weapon, aside for the usual swords at play.
The episode ends there with the classic Attack on Titan cliff-hangar. There’s not much to say other that, it’s good to be back. I’ve missed this anime so much and I can’t wait to learn more.
