Announced at BitSummit 2018 in Kyoto, Japan, the next game in the Azure Striker Gunvolt series, “Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX”, is now in development!

If you own a Nintendo Switch like I do, the you owe it to yourself to check out the Gunvolt franchise. Especially if you’ve been looking for that MegaMan fix.

Like the Mega Man series, Azure Striker Gunvolt is a side-scrolling action platform game. The player controls the eponymous Gunvolt, who is able to jump, dash, and utilize a gun with special bullets that “tag” their targets, which grants a homing effect to Gunvolt’s electric fields. Gameplay focuses heavily on the player’s technique and skill in moving through stages. While finishing a stage is relatively easy, the game provides a ranking system as well as several optional challenges.

And it looks like Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger iX will be following the same mechanics with Copen as the main protagonist of his own game. It’s one of the hidden gems of the Nintendo library and I encourage you guys to check it out, once it releases. After the first two games, I honestly thought we’ve seen the last of the Gunvolt series but I was fortunately wrong. I’m really hoping they’ll add some to additions to the game, like an English voice option. It was pretty difficult to read the dialogue while speeding through the level as either Gunvolt or Copen and I’d end up missing a good bunch of text.

Aside from that, I just hope the story is just as epic as the previous games. Also, just a side note, I think Gunvolt and Copen would make for great characters in Super Smash Bros! Anyways, I can’t wait to hear more about the game at E3 2018!
