I’ve yet to play Persona 5 for myself so my opinion towards this new anime may be different in comparison those who’ve played the game. However, after watching the first episode, I can see why this series his held in such a high regard. PERSONA5 the Animation may very well convince me to play the game.

PERSONA5 the Animation follows the video game closely, with the producers wishing to faithfully follow the main plot, while incorporating confidants. It’s about a rebellious group of teenagers in Tokyo who form the Phantom Thieves of Hearts to rebel against the corruption and slavery in society. The protagonist name is Ren Amamiya. Since I haven’t played the game, I don’t really have any attachment to the main character yet so to me, he comes of as shy and kind of a pushover. But from the hints we got at the beginning of the episode, I’m getting the idea that he won’t stay like that for too long.

The plot is as follows:

After high school student Ren Amamiya gets in trouble with the police, he’s labeled as a juvenile delinquent. As part of his probation, he is forced to start living with Sojiro Sakura, a stranger who agreed to take him in. While walking to his new school Shujin Academy, Ren becomes lost in another world…

I have a very low knowledge when it comes to the Persona series but I don’t think you necessary need to play the game to enjoy the anime. As far as I know, PERSONA 5 the Animation will follow the game’s narrative very closely so you won’t feel too out of place. However I do plan on playing the game at some point in time. Speaking of the anime, the visual presentation was in fact outstanding. It’s vibrant and sharp with a smooth animation to boost, A-1 Studios really outdid themselves with the high quality animation. From the casino to the castle, every shot looked phenomenal.

I’ve heard that Persona has some of the best music in 2017 when it was first released and now I can see why. It really captures the emotions and feel of what was happening on screen really well. This is coming from someone who hasnt’

Even if you have never played any of the persona game in the past, just like me, you can still watch this anime as I feel like this would be the perfect entry point for anyone who is interesting in this series. Definitely would recommend it.
