Kakegurui is one anime that I’ve got to finish watching as I’ve only gotten up to seven episodes. So I went back I re-watched it once again so I can get back to the zone of it and it dawned on me that I’ve never shared my thoughts on it. So let me fix that now.
As per usual, let me provide you with a brief summary of the anime for those who may be knew to it or never heard of it:
Unlike many schools, attending Hyakkaou Private Academy prepares students for their time in the real world. Since many of the students are the children of the richest people in the world, the academy has its quirks that separate it from all the others. By day, it is a normal school, educating its pupils in history, languages, and the like. But at night, it turns into a gambling den, educating them in the art of dealing with money and manipulating people. Money is power; those who come out on top in the games stand at the top of the school.
Yumeko Jabami, a seemingly naive and beautiful transfer student, is ready to try her hand at Hyakkaou’s special curriculum. Unlike the rest, she doesn’t play to win, but for the thrill of the gamble, and her borderline insane way of gambling might just bring too many new cards to the table.
Right of the bat, the visuals it what makes the most impression on me. I’ve never seen such facial impressions like these in my life. It’s one of the aspect that makes Kakegurui so amazing. Along with that is how Yumeko Jabami literally has you wondering just how far she’s willing to go to get the best thrill out of a game. I mean most of the student at this school are insane in their own right but Yumeko Jabami takes that concept to a whole new level.
The anime consist of an episodic mystery series in which Yumeko Jabami figures out the tricks and schemes that the antagonist are employing in order to cheat the game, only for her to figure it out through sheer intuition and turn the game to her favor. And it goes without mention that there’s A LOT, and I mean A LOT of moments with up-skirts, and overt sexualization. So there’s that. But if you aren’t bothered by that kind of stuff then it’s worth checking out. It’s really interesting and fun to watch.
Overall, it’s an anime that’s worth checking out if you’re into gambling, crazy visuals and exaggerated faces.
