So after the leaked summary for Dragon Ball Super episode 130 & episode 131 came out, some people in the community have voiced their distaste for it. So I wanted to share my thoughts on how I think Dragon Ball Super should end according to the some in the community.
Before I get started, let me set the record straight, I don’t care how Dragon Ball Super ends. From the start, Dragon Ball Super has and always will be a fan service arc. It gave us almost everything that we as the fans could have ever hope for in a Dragon Ball anime. However, because of this, it suffered from a lot of inconsistency and poor plot writing.
Despite all that, it’s still a great anime for what it is. Now episode 130 and 131 has proven something that I feel most of us already knew but won’t admit. Dragon Ball fans don’t actually know what they want. Hear me out on this.
For the longest time, fans have cried out that Goku is always the one that gets the final kill in every scenario. It’s always the Goku show at the end of the day, which has made the show a little bit more predicable than it already is. After years of complaining about this cliche, Toriyama must have heard about it and decided to shake this up a bit. This has led to the ending that’s about to take place. Funny enough, instead of fans (who’ve read the summary) getting intrigued by this interesting direction, they instead complain that Goku should still win the fight. Funny huh?
I mean I can see they’re arguments too. We’ve seen this already happen twice now. The first one took place with Beerus when Goku first obtained Super Saiyan God and still lost to him. That one we can give it a pass since it’s Beerus. The next time this happened was with Hit. I know that he threw the fight in that example but if you go back and re-watch the fight, you’d be able to tell that Goku wouldn’t have been able to beat Hit, despite his newly acquired power up in my opinion. Now it’s about to happened again with Jiren. You seeing the trend here? I think fans are upset, not the fact that Goku loses, but at the fact that he loses despite obtaining a skill/form that even the gods can’t reach.
This trend ends up undermining the new transformation’s power and makes it hard for fans to gauge the strength of it. Whether you care for it or not, we all like to make sense of what we see, and in Dragon Ball’s case its power scaling. Unfortunately, that notion was thrown out the window a long time ago.
Now, I don’t know if the leaked ending can be trusted completely. It could have been leaked on purpose to throw fans for a loop. But it’s interesting how full circle we as the fans have come in regards to Goku. First we don’t want him to win, now we want him to win. Toriyama can’t seem to win here.
Well, whatever happens in the end, I just hope that the animation team does a fantastic job with it and really gives us a finale to remember. Let me know what you guys think of all this?
