Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass Venom just debuted its first teaser trailer and so far, I ain’t really vibing with it.
Don’t get me wrong, Venom’s amazing as a villain but this trailer left me with more questions than answers and a bit of a concern about the premises of this movie. First of, I can’t tell whether Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy is playing Eddie Brock or Flash Thomson. I don’t know if they’re hiding it or what but I kinda would like to know, so I can see the direction this movie is going.
Secondly, how are you gonna show a Venom trailer, without showing at the very least, a glimpse of Venom himself? Honestly, if I didn’t know any better, I’d think this was just another generic action movie. Please don’t tell they’re planning on going the entire movie without Venom and only showing him in the last 20 minutes?
Thirdly, and this is just a speculation, but I heard that this movie will somehow feature Tom Holland’s Spiderman. How is that even possible? With this movie been based in its own universe, bringing in the MCU’s Spiderman makes no sense, writing-wise, but that actually leads me to my next point.
I’ve been pondering how Venom can stand on his own two feet without SpiderMan. I mean, Venom exists to be SpiderMan’s poison, hence the name Venom. Sure, Venom has had his own stand-alone comics in the past but now we’re talking about a movie stand-alone. And not to mention, this is his origin story and we all know how that story goes.
I don’t know, I’m not really vibing with this movie just yet. I’d need to see more before making my final judgement. The action looks cool but it’s nothing we haven’t seen before.
Anyways, here’s the new trailer, let me know your thoughts on it?
