Black Clover is an interesting anime to say the least. It’s an anime that has been heavily marketed by Funimation and now, even has its own game (Black Clover: Project Knights) on it’s way after only a dozen or so episodes online. So what makes Black Clover worthy of all this attention anyway?

To give you a quick synopsis of what this anime is about:

In a world where magic is everything, Asta and Yuno are both found abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magical powers, Asta is the only one in this world without any. At the age of fifteen, both receive grimoires, magic books that amplify their holder’s magic. Asta’s is a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponent’s spells. Being opposite but good rivals, Yuno and Asta are ready for the hardest of challenges to achieve their common dream: to be the Wizard King. Giving up is never an option!

Like many of you out there, I tried watching the sub version of Black Clover first and quickly dropped it halfway through the episode as I couldn’t stand Asta’s voice any longer. It was irritating and just plain awful. But after weeks of ignoring the anime and seeing so many people saying positive stuff about it, I came back and marathon-ed the dub version. To my surprise, I was very pleasantly impressed by the voice actors performance. I honestly think it’s the best I’ve heard in quite some time.

Black Clover struck a cord with me, mainly because it dwells with elemental stuff and I do love me some elemental battles but also because I quickly grew fond of these characters and their world and instantly wanted to learn more about it. Trust me, I rarely remember the names of many character of anime that I’ve watched in the past so for me, if I can remember your name after episode 2 or 3, then it’s a sign that I’m gonna like it.

Now keep in mind that I’ve been only watching the anime at this current moment and have no intention of reading the manga. I have heard that the manga gets really good so I am quite excited for it to be shown in the anime.

Honestly, if you haven’t watched the anime yet or like me, watched the first episode of Black Clover in sub and instantly stopped watching it because of Asta, try it again but with dubs. It’s almost 100% better that the subs and it’s great so far. Let me know your thoughts on Black Clover.
