I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, My Hero Academia SEASON 2 is the greatest anime of 2017 and episode 23 proves it….
Tell me I wasn’t the only one who got a Naruto vs Neji/Gaara vibe from this episode. The fight between Deku and Todoroki was perhaps the greatest in animation terms yet. We also learned a little bit more about the quirk and how using it has different level of effect s on the person’s stamina, endurance and upper limits.
We got a great deal of character development for Todoroki and his resolve to finally become his own person, however, what stole the show for me was when he finally activates his flame powers and the animation that followed with it. I can’t get over how hype that moment was, seeing both of them going in and giving it everything they’ve got. Honestly I feel like even if the wall guy hadn’t interfered with the fight, it would’ve probably ended in a draw or a win for Todoroki.
Deku impressed me as well. Can you even imagine the type of pain this man went through using One for All, all those fingers and arm destroyed just to save his friend. This man has come far from the kid that cried every few minutes.
This is hands down the best episode of My Hero Academia thus far and I know I’ve been saying this for the past review but I can’t help it if the keep making this superb animation. I’ve seen this moment already in the manga but seeing it animated was even better. It’s one of those instances where I would even say that the anime did better than the manga.
