Attack on Titan Season 2 – Episode 28: Southwestward Review
Today’s episode of Attack on Titan, titled “Southwestward” continues exactly where episode 27 left off, with Conny finding his home in ruins…
This episode was actually pretty damm interesting. Yeah there wasn’t any action or humans been devoured but it did gives some key insight as to what the origins of what these Titans could be. The first clue to this mystery, which was pretty creepy, started with the Titan that had collapsed on top of Conny’s house. The titan greeted Conny as he was about to ride away to begin his search for his family. This is the second time we’ve seen a titan talk, the first being the beast titan.
What made this scene even more extremely interesting was that Conny noted that the Titan’s greeting reminded him of his mother. Also with one of the soldier there commenting to himself that the horses were still at the stable and survival on foot was next to impossible, one would assume that they are all dead. However if that were to be the case, there should be pools of blood all over the place as a result of the Titans biting down on humans.
Before I go on, I gotta stress again that I haven’t read the manga so for you manga readers out there, show mercy for my next theory. So what I’m getting at here is that the villagers might have possibly being turned into titans by force and that titan that had collapsed on Conny’s house might have actually been his mother. That would explain all the titans and how they “suddenly” appeared on earth.
The next part of the episode further supports my theory, as Krista Lenz’s group and another group discover that the walls has not been breached at all and raises questions on how these titans actually made it inside. I’m just saying, someone’s turning humans into titans and I bet it has something to do with what’s hidden underneath Eren’s basement and what Paster Nick knows about the Wall Titans. I wouldn’t be surprised if we found out that the Wall Titans were once humans who sacrificed themselves to save humanity from the brink of extinction.
Near the end of the episode, the group gets surrounded by titans while staying at a castle. Apparently titan aren’t supposed to move at night and we also see that beast titan within the vicinity, climbing the wall, which would explain their sudden activity. We also learn that someone in that tower knows something important and all clues seem point to Ymir. From the looks of things, it seems that Ymir secret seems ton tie in Krista Lenz and she may end up playing a huge role in the reveling more about the wall titans. We’ll just have to wait for next week’s episode to learn more.
Overall, I’d say this was a nicely paced-episode. Sure there wasn’t any action or blood shed but it still was an amazing episode for building suspense and mystery of the Titans. Can’t wait to see more.
