Alright, the first episode of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is here and already we’ve learned something huge regarding Boruto’s future…
The episode starts out similar to the manga, foreshadowing the fight between Boruto and Kawaki and the destruction of the hidden leaf village. After that we get a brand new opening (which is awesome btw) and the story that follows Boruto’s time before and during the academy. He meets a new friend named Denki and apparently they both have similar issues with their father and wanting to follow their own path in life so naturally they became friends. That’s the gist of the episode.
Now let’s about the big thing that I found very interesting in this episode, and that is Boruto’s right eye. Many fans used to believe that Boruto inherited that eye from either Hinata or Himarari due to him never displaying the ability to awakening the Byakugan and the events that took take place in the future. We now know that he’s born with that eye and seems to activate when an anomaly occurs around his presence or sight.
There is also a notable difference in his eye compared to that of a regular Byakugan. His iris for example is dark, similar to that of someone resurrected from edo tensei but that could be the animators choosing that colour to show the uniqueness of the eye. It’s also important to note that Boruto wasn’t able to see the flow of chakra with that eye like a regular Byakugan can but that could change in the future. One could even make the argument that it’s not even a Byakugan, but more like a hybrid between the Byakugan and the Tenseigan (not saying it has any of the property and prowess of the Tenseigan, I saying it shares similarity in terms of looks), or juts a half of a Byakugan. Let me know your thoughts on this subject.
Overall, I think the first episode this a great job in creating hype in order get people to keep watching even though they’ve read the manga. I’m looking forward to seeing more in the future.
