This year is a very important year for both SEGA and every Sonic fan across the world, it’s Sonic The Hedgehog’s 25th anniversary and a lot is riding on this. A lot of people are expecting great things from the speedster, in particularly, a brand new NEXT GEN game, something that will once and for all bring his name out from the dirt and back into glory, but the question is, can SEGA do it?…

Sega have recently posted a new advert for Sonic’s 25th featuring Classic Sonic, Modern Sonic and Boom Sonic together along with another version of the 25th anniversary logo. Naturally everyone assumes that there’s a Generation 2 in the works but frankly that just isn’t the case.  Sonic Generation was a game that commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Sonic series, a game that put two decades of the most memorable things that made Sonic The Hedgehog great into one disk. It just wouldn’t make any sense to them to make a sequel of Generation, as it would defeat the original purpose for which the game was created.

That begs the question then, what does SEGA have in mind for the anniversary celebration and why in all that is good in this world is Boom Sonic in that advert? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate Boom Sonic as a character, I just hate his abomination of a game. Well from reading the post that SEGA released, we know that there’s not one but multiple games in the works, a bunch of events and something about Sonic Boom TV show. Now, by several games what I think they meant by that was Mario & Sonic at the Rio Olympics, Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, some mobile or 3DS Game and of course the Sonic 25th current-gen Game.

Sonic is my number one favorite video game character of all time, I have said this multiple times in the past and for the last couple of years it has released some really bad games (with the exception of Unleashed, Colours and Generation). Now this year, I feel that it’s even more important that ever for Sonic and SEGA to redeem themselves and show that Sonic still has a place in this era. They got two groups of fans to worry about, the classic fans who grew up with the old school games and the modern fans.

By now you’re probably asking, “Well what’s your ideal sonic game then?” Honestly if you ask me, its a combination of multiple sonic games, I enjoyed the story-telling of Heroes and Unleashed, and the gameplay mechanics of Generation. After that I don’t have any specific thing I want to see in this unknown game. As long as the don’t repeat a Sonic 06 or pass off a half-assed spin off as the anniversary game, I’m cool. Also this game NEEDS to be a next-gen EXCLUSIVE ONLY, I’m sorry but I don’t want some old hardware holding back the game’s potential. If you don’t have a PS4, Xbox One or PC at this point well…tough luck I guess.

It’s also important to note that there’s rumors of SEGA apparently making Sonic Adventure 3 and another game titled Sonic Genesis: The Origin of Chaos but like I said before it’s just a rumor, frankly I don’t get why people still want SA3 but that’s debatable at this point. Now the question still remains, why is Boom Sonic in this advert pic? My only guess is and I’m sure you won’t like this, is that SEGA will probably try and merge the two universes into one for this game alone. How they will pull it off, I don’t know, but I pray that they won’t mess this up.

Let me know what you want to see from this anniversary game in the comments.
